Director, MSS and MDR / Product Strategist / Pickleball Enthusiast
Steven Rosenthal builds managed security services that security teams actually rely on. His focus: managed detection and response, threat intelligence, and SaaS-based security solutions.
As VikingCloud's Director of Managed Security Services (MSS) and Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Steven owns the strategy, development, and go-to-market for our managed security portfolio. The job driving his work is straightforward: cut through the noise of modern security tooling and give teams the clarity to detect, respond, and recover faster.
From Concept to Launch
Steven has taken security products from whiteboard to market and kept refining them as customer needs shift. His range spans threat intelligence, SaaS-based security, and operational security, with a consistent throughline: ship outcomes, not tech specs.
That product instinct is what sets his work apart. Steven operates at the seam between product management, security operations, and business strategy, translating technical depth into services customers can actually deploy and measure.
On Stage & Off the Clock
Steven is a regular voice in the MDR and security operations conversation, with speaking slots at RSAC, Microsoft Ignite, and Black Hat, plus a steady stream of blogs and industry commentary.
Off the clock, he's tuning his home network, chasing whatever's new in tech, and bringing the same problem-solving brain to the pickleball court.
Q&A with Steven Rosenthal
Q: What excites you most about the work right now?
“Agentic AI. The security playbook was written for humans clicking through interfaces. Now we're defending APIs that AI agents are hitting at machine speed. That shift is the most interesting problem in the industry right now, and we get to build the answer.”
Q: What’s the biggest challenge organizations face?
“Tool sprawl. Teams are drowning in alerts and dashboards but still can't answer basic questions about their own environment. The value isn't in adding another platform. It's in cutting through the noise so teams can see what actually matters.”
Q: What’s your top advice for security leaders?
“Stop buying tools. Start measuring outcomes. More technology doesn't equal more security. What matters is how fast you can detect, respond, and recover. The strongest programs aren't the ones with the biggest stacks. They're the ones getting the most out of what they already have.”
Why Steven Matters
Steven makes hard things simpler. He turns fragmented security tooling into services teams can actually run, translates technical complexity into business outcomes, and pushes the MDR conversation forward at every stage of the market. That combination, builder, strategist, and practitioner, is what customers and colleagues keep coming back for.
