40% of cyber teams have not reported a cyber incident out of fear of losing their jobs – a disclosure that signifies a serious underreporting of cyber breaches globally.

New VikingCloud proprietary research – gathered from a survey of nearly 170 cybersecurity professionals in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland – also reveals that 96% of the same companies are confident in their ability to detect and respond to cyberattacks in real time – leading to a false sense of security which could lead to an even higher cyber risk for organizations.

The 2024 Cyber Threat Landscape Report: Cyber Risks, Opportunities, & Resilience highlights how unprepared organizations are for modern cyber risks, the challenges cyber teams face today, and the steps they can take to fight back.

Key findings include:

  • 40% of cyber teams have not reported a cyber incident out of fear of losing their jobs – a disclosure that signifies a serious underreporting of cyber breaches globally.
  • 49% of companies said cyberattacks increased in frequency and 43% said they increased in severity over the past 12 months.
  • 33% of companies were late to respond to cyberattacks because they were dealing with a false positive.
  • 68% of cyber teams would not be able to meet the Securities and Exchange Commission’s new 4-day disclosure rule – and industry standard for incident response.
